BRZ arrives at Essex Subaru - Road Test REPORT-First drive
Well this is something pretty special. This new coupe from Subaru is a bit of a revelation really when it comes to modern day sports cars in our opinion. Great package with 4 seats (that are useable for kids...in the back obviously) and good interior space in the cockpit. This particular model is the LUX SE variant with Leather/Alcantara interior trim and a high level of interior kit that good to touch and feel and inkeeping with the engineering excellence that Subaru is known for.
Ok lets go for a drive...Keyless entry and GO with the Power Start Button located on the dash (like a race car), put into AUTO mode on the gear box and it pulls smoothly away with the gearbox just shifting up through the gears without any bump or hesitation - feels really smooth but tight and in control. Get noticed a bit going through the high street in Great Dunmow, it does look very different to most cars on the road we have to admit ( probably a good thing that). With LED daytime running lights and the rear light LED cluster it's bang up to date and the steering is pin sharp accurate, goes exactly where I'm pointing it.
Climate control is easy to operate and so is the cruise control and at 70mph on the A120 the revs are under 2000rpm so it's quiet and frugal too.It's brand new so the average trip computer is showing that fuel consumption is 28.4 mpg so we will watch that over the next few thousand miiles as we expect to see that rising. Audio is good, think we might go for the DAB audio upgrade on this car but for now we will have MW and FM and our iPOD to listen to our favourite programmes and tunes.
So this car has only covered a few hundred miles so we are not going over 4000 rpm until we've gone over 500 miles (old habits and all that) so we will write another test drive report when we can express a little more power into the car but this car is not going to disappoint, you can feel it !
